During my time as Head of Design at M&C Saatchi Export, we were occasionally asked to design flyers, greetings cards and invites. As a team we looked at ways to make them more physically interactive and hopefully therefore more engaging.
The final version of the flyer shown above was printed and distributed in Bahrain, so this sequence shows one of my construction mock-ups from earlier in the process. The fold allows the flyer to keep turning in on itself until it reaches its original start position again, going through four distinct stages in the process. It proved extremely difficult to find a printing spec or cutter guide for this, so one of the most interesting parts of the job was trying to ascertain exactly how it worked, then creating all the cuts and folds as print ready artwork.
The loop directly above shows a concept for an invite to the Bahrain Grand Prix. Again, the final pieces were printed in Bahrain, so this early mock-up was created to demonstrate the idea of a small Formula One car accelerating forward to reveal a message.
